Fellowship's Deaf Ministry

FELLOWSHIP DEAF MINISTRY [CENTRAL CAMPUS]

Since 1988, Fellowship Bible Church has been committed to providing a place of worship, growth, community, and service for people who are deaf or hearing impaired. Our church has endeavored to ensure a ministry that would not only be for deaf people, but of deaf people, as well. As deaf and hearing individuals within this ministry work hand-in-hand, the following services are now available to our Deaf Community:

Interpreted Worship and Teaching
During 1st service at 9:00 a.m. in the Worship Center, skilled sign language interpreters provide a sincere interpretation of both worship and teaching. As deaf people express worship in their own language, the power of the visual permeates the entire congregation and God is honored as both languages come together. Other events such as Equipping Center classes, Women’s Connection, Men’s Fraternity, etc., are also interpreted.

During 2nd service at 11:00 a.m. in the Worship Center, oral interpreting is provided for deaf people or the hearing impaired who do not use sign language. Portable FM systems are also available for the hearing impaired to access the worship service.

Growth Through Deaf Community Group
The deaf congregation meets together as a Community Group for Bible Study and fellowship, enjoying a time of social and spiritual interaction with friends.

Service by Deaf Members
Even though our deaf members are mainstreamed into the hearing congregation, many have become servant-leaders in the church and community. Two significant areas of outreach include:

  • Fellowship Deaf Student Ministries: Every other Sunday night, students from the Arkansas School for the Deaf are transported by FBC vans to the Fellowship Student Center for a deaf youth night. Deaf adults lead the students in a time of fun and recreation, Bible study, prayer, and questions and answers. These young people are being guided by godly deaf adult role models to be all that God intends them to be.
  • Honduras Deaf Mission: Since the early 1990’s, FBC Deaf Ministry has been heavily involved in sending and leading mission teams to Tegucigalpa, Honduras for the purpose of working with deaf people there. With God’s guidance, we have been instrumental in helping develop New Life Deaf Ministry that now serves hundreds of deaf Hondurans. Our deaf mission teams also work with parents, educators, and government officials in creating more deaf awareness.
